Summary: Information about how to submit your articles to @FOXPOP.
Submitting your articles to @FOXPOP
As a member of the @FOXPOP 'collective' you will be given permission to post articles to the main sections on the site. As a first step, you will need to register with the site. Just follow the on-screen instructions and the email that will be sent to you. If you have any problems registering contact David Lenton here: . He will also ensure that your permissions are set correctly once you have registered.
- Now go to the main Articles page http://www.foxpop.co.uk/articles/default.htm and logon.
- Once logged on, choose the section (EPOC, Palm, Pocket PC etc.) where you want to post your article
- You should see a button at the bottom of the screen that offers 'Post new article'. Use this button to access the posting screen.
There are two sections to your posting, a small (preferably single sentence) description, and a longer summary with optional graphic. The first, small posting (subject and summary) is what will appear on the main articles page, and on the section specific page.
The second, longer summary serves two purposes.
- Firstly it is the description and 'taster' page where the reader will decide whether or not to read the entire article (there will be a click through to the full article at the end of the summary).
- Secondly it forms the main information that will be included in the searchable database. So put as many 'keywords' as you can into this summary to enable effective searching.
The usual pattern that we have developed is to put the graphic at the top of this section, if you want to include one. You can link to a graphic anywhere on the web - probably on the actual review itself! As a guideline, could you try to keep the graphics to no more than 200 pixels in height.
To link to a file elsewhere on the web then place a string similar to the one that follows at the start of the text (or in the body of your text):
<img src="http://www.foxpop.co.uk/elisa/wifi/images/logo_2.gif" alt="[Text to describe image]" />
NOTE:
the URL here is NOT the one to use - replace it with your own.
![]()
Also, try to remember to provide some descriptive text about the image in
the alt tag.
Article text
You can copy and paste text from a pre-prepared document (I find this easiest!) and this seems to work well. Do ensure that you have a carriage return between the graphic and the text, and also another one before the URL at the end (see below).
When you have got the summary in place, then the final element you need is the link through to the full article on your own website. Use a link like the one below:
<a href="http://www.foxpop.co.uk/elisa/wifi/wifi_cover.htm">http://www.foxpop.co.uk/elisa/wifi/wifi_cover.htm</a>.
NOTE: the URL here is NOT the
one to use - replace it with your own.
![]()
Editing
You can access the posting in order to edit is as and when you need. It is a good idea to use a spell checker before posting (there isn't one included!). It took me several goes to get the hang of the system - but it is easy once you do.
Happy posting!
